Good oral hygiene is not only important to prevent tooth decay, but also to keep our gums healthy.  Healthy gums reduce the chance of periodontal disease, which affects the bone around the teeth and the gums.  The proven most effective way to maintain good oral health is brushing two times daily, flossing daily and regular hygiene and dental checks.

Even with the best home cleaning, there is always some bacteria left behind, so regular maintenance visits are vital.

Here at Balmoral Dental Centre we assess all patients’ needs and determine the most appropriate time interval between these visits – usually between three and 12-monthly.

If it’s been more than two years since your last check-up, we’d recommend a comprehensive examination.

Regular checks and hygiene maintenance aims to reduce costs by preventing complex and expensive treatments.

Our tips for good oral health are:

  • brush twice daily with a soft tooth brush
  • use a fluoridated toothpaste
  •  floss daily
  •  monitor the amount and frequency of sugar in your diet, and
  •  maintain regular dental visits to check and maintain oral health.
