Crown and Bridge

Crown and Bridge

A dental crown is a replacement of the outside layer of the tooth.  It is used when the tooth is fractured, heavily restored or cracked.  In select cases multiple crowns can be used to replace worn teeth and return the bite to its original size and feel.  Crowns are permanently fixed in place and need to be cared for like your natural teeth.

As with all treatment, we will do a full assessment to determine the most appropriated option for you.  Materials used to make crowns include Gold, Porcelain fused to metal, Porcelain or Zirconia.  We will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each material and help you choose what is best for you.

If you have a missing tooth, a bridge can be used to replace the tooth.  The teeth on each side of the space are crowned with the missing tooth joined in the middle.  The whole bridge is fixed permanently into position.

Depending on the situation, crowns can sometimes be made in a single visit or over two visits with the crown made in a dental laboratory.

At Balmoral Dental Centre we can give you all the information you need for your particular situation, so call us today.
